Thesis Title: A Collective Analysis of Migrant Language Communities in Northern Ireland and their Needs
About
My research to date has focused on multiculturalism and cultural diversity in contemporary societies. My PhD, which is now published as a book, was an analysis of contemporary migration issues in post-conflict Northern Ireland. I have been particularly interested in community languages and how migrants have faced such issues as barriers to public services, the acquisition of English, and also concerns relating to the maintenance of native language skills - especially in relation to migrant children. This research has especially noted that there is a need to bridge the gap between government departments and community-led migrant initiatives in the development of more effective language policy.
