About
Tom Maguire is a Senior Lecturer in Theatre Studies in the School of Creative Arts at the University of Ulster. He researches and teaches in the areas of contemporary British and Irish drama, applied theatre, and theatre practice, focusing particularly on theatre for young audiences and storytelling performance.
He is a member of the Editorial Panel of the journal About Performance and has acted as a reader for the University of Exeter Press, Pluto Press and Blackwell Press; and for the journals Postcolonial Text, About Performance, Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism, and Performing Ethos. He has reviewed books on theatre for Contemporary Theatre Review, Journal of Arts and Communities, Performing Ethos and New Theatre Quarterly.
He served for two terms as Chair of SCUDD, the UK subject association for Drama in higher education, stepping down in March 2012.
He is the Chair of the Board of Big Telly Theatre Company, Northern Ireland. He reviews theatre for Irish Theatre Magazine and, occasionally BBC Radio Ulster.
He has co-edited with Karian Schuitema a volume of essays on Theatre for Young Audiences in the UK, to be published by Trentham Books in September 2012.
